DENTAL HYGIENE AND PERSONAL GROOMING
What is it for?
Nobody has to tell you to do this right? You learned this stuff in grade school.
But, they might have to tell you HOW to take care of your teeth.
Is there a difference?
Why or why not?
In this module we will learn:
Why is it important to brush your teeth?
How many times per day to brush
The purpose of dental floss
The correct way to floss and
How long to floss.
There is a difference it's called dental health. Did you know that a lack of complete dental hygiene could affect your health and that your health could affect your dental hygiene?
Explain that to me.
If you neglect proper dental care you can end up with cavities, periodontal disease, and halitosis. Not brushing thoroughly leaves acids and sugars on the teeth that eat at the enamel and loosens the gums.
Eating and drinking lots of sugar-laden and acid laden foods can help decay your teeth and impair your health. Alcohol or drug addictions can also create problems.
These are some of the effects of dental hygiene neglect.

Here is a checklist to remind you of what you need to do daily.
__ The bristles of my toothbrush are not tattered.
__ I have visited my dentist in the last six months/I will visit my dentist.
__ I rinse my mouth with mouthwash every time I eat or drink something.
__ I choose the whole fruit over its juice.
__ I have cut down on drinking sugary and carbonated drinks.
__ If I have to sip on a sweet juice or drink, I use the straw.
__ I have cut down on smoking.
Dental Hygiene Checklist
__ My toothbrush is not older than three
months.
__ The bristles of my toothbrush are not tattered.
__ I brushed my teeth for 2-3 minutes.
__ I flossed and followed correct procedures
when flossing.
__ I used fluoride toothpaste.
__ I have visited my dentist in the last six months/I will visit my dentist.
__ I rinse my mouth with mouthwash every time I eat or drink something.
__ I choose the whole fruit over its juice.
__ I have cut down on drinking sugary and carbonated drinks.
__ If I have to sip on a sweet juice or drink, I use the straw.

When I was a teen I struggled with my skin. I always got acne and was embarrassed about my skin. Having skin problems sometimes affects your self-esteem and can make you feel unattractive.
There is a way that you can develop healthy looking skin. Through eating healthy and by knowing your skin type to learn to keep it clean.
